March - July 2011 I was a student of Rhizome Lee at the Himalaya Subbody Butoh School in Dharamsala, India.  Some of my classmates were Contact Improvisation dancers.When a classmate gave a Butoh-Contact workshop the term Contact Butoh was easely created.

What could it be

Classical Butoh is a lonely affair, resonating with the darkness inside your own body. Contact with other bodies is not explored.

Classical Contact is a flowing dance. Weakness, rot and stuckness are usually not explored.

Maybe Contact Butoh could be Contact Improvisation with a weakend body in a muddy rice field exploring rotten touch and stuck flows.

Maybe it is Butoh exploring touch, communication and flow.

Maybe something else altogether...

At least its a multidimensional mix of Butoh and Contact opening a new field to play and explore...
